What Is the Difference Between Sativa-Like and I-Like Strains of cannabis?

There are many different types of cannabis plants from all over the world. With literally hundreds of thousands of different strains, it can be very difficult to tell what kind of cannabis you need to grow in your garden. The three main categories of cannabis are Sativa, Indica, and hybrids. Each type has its own distinct characteristics that set them apart from one another. Lets discuss the difference between indica and sativa.

Sativa: This type of cannabis comes from the plant known as the cannabis sativa. These plants are native to South America and often grow taller than Indica and hybrids. With dark green leaves and vibrant green, these plants are perfect for indoor growing. They tend to be a bit more expensive than most other kinds of cannabis.

Sativa: This type of cannabis comes from the plants called the sativa. The Sativa plant is native to India and is often used in cooking. Many of the recipes call for ingredients that contain high amounts of terpenes. Terpenes are the essential oils found in the leaves and stems of the plant. High amounts of terpenes give certain strains of cannabis their distinctive smell and the aroma of sweet marjoram, lemon balm, lavender, and other strong-scented aromas.

Aroma: This refers to the chemical composition of a plant. It is a complex mixture of terpenes, terpenoids, essential oils, and other compounds. Many strains of cannabis have a very unique smell. These smell different depending on the variety and can range from fruity and floral aromas, to woodsy and earthy aromas.

Longevity: Some varieties of cannabis tend to produce longer growing periods than others. In general, the longer the plant has lived, the more likely it is to produce a long-lasting head of hair or marijuana. Some of these shorter lived plants are the African Sativa and Mexican Sativa. In tropical climates the plant’s ability to grow long means that they can produce large quantities of buds, making them ideal for medical marijuana use.

Varieties: There are over 30 different varieties of cannabis. Some of these are Sativa-like and some are I-like. Some are tall, some are short, and some have no hybrid distinction at all. While most strains of cannabis share some of their physical traits, there are many differences between individual strains. One way to distinguish between the types of plants is to look for telltale signs of hybridization. If you find two different strains that have noticeable differences, this is a sign of a hybrid.
